In 2009 I worked as a subcontractor for a company called Enigma that used to be based in Maidenhead (Berkshire), and this was on full display at one of the jobs I was sent to do for them.

Being South African, I do not remember ever being taught about the Outbreak Of
The Fifth Kaffir War at school. I had two fabulous history teachers at high school - who made every single one of their lessons highly entertaining and engaging.
Yet, I am willing to bet my life that nobody in either of their classrooms were stunned to silence when mention of the Fifth Kaffir War passed their lips - because we never heard of any historical South African conflicts referred to in those terms.
Yet, I stood before an extensive display - dressed up in terms that would cause great offense to the nation and tribes of that region being depicted in that display.
So, on the 22nd of February, 2026 - I Googled "What Are Kaffirs" and it's current standing, usage and interpretation worldwide. This is what I found. I think we always knew that it was a racial slur. Perhaps, not, the United Kingdom
